Construction time lapse Leuna: UPM Biochemicals biorefinery

panTerra package:

The world's first biorefinery is built in Leuna, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Leuna in Saxony-Anhalt is primarily known for its chemical industry. UPM Biochemicals GmbH is building a globally unique biorefinery here. Here, biochemicals are obtained from sustainably produced hardwood for the production of recyclable everyday objects and materials.

This process reduces the consumption of fossil raw materials and CO2 emissions. Biochemicals can be used in a variety of ways: for textiles, plastics, rubber, cosmetics and medicines. Innovative biochemicals are produced for the renewable fillers bio-monoethylene glycol (BioMEG), bio-monopropylene glycol (BioMPG) and wood-based functional fillers.

We document the construction with 4 high-resolution 8K (51 megapixel) time-lapse camera systems. The opening of the biorefinery is planned for the end of 2023.
